John Dean was born on October 14, 1938, in Akron, Ohio. He was raised in Marion for many years, before his family shifted to Flossmoor, Illinois. After that, he attended Staunton Military Academy for high school studies.

After that, he went to Colgate University for his undergraduate course, but he moved to The College of Wooster based in Ohio. At The College of Wooster, he completed his B.A in 1961. In 1965, John Dean received a law degree from Georgetown University.

John Dean is an American lawyer, who served as White House Counsel from 1970 to 1973 during the administration of U.S Pres. Richard M. Nixon. He is known for his role in the conspiracy of the Watergate Scandal and his following testimony to Congress as a witness.

His guilty appeal to a single crime in exchange for becoming a main witness for the prosecution eventually resulted in a decreased sentence, which he worked at Fort Holabird outside Baltimore, Maryland. He was disbarred after his plea.

He wrote about his experiences in a series of books and went on a tour to the United States for lecturing, shortly after the hearings of Watergate. Later, he turned out to be a commentator on contemporary politics. He also became a book author as well as a columnist for FindLaw’s Writ.

He had originally been a supporter of Goldwater conservatism. But later, he became a critic of the Republican Party. After completing his studies, he joined a law firm, Welch & Morgan, based in Washington, D.C., where he was soon suspected of conflict of interest violations. Due to this, he got fired from the job. He was supposed to have begun negotiating his own private deal for a Television station broadcast license.

After that, he served as chief minority counsel to the House Judiciary Committee from 1966 to 1967. He has 2-year tenure as associate director of the National Commission on Reform of Federal Criminal Laws headed his accepting appointment in the Nixon administration as an associate deputy attorney general.

He was appointed as White House Counsel by the president in the year 1970. In 1972, he first came to National attention, when Nixon named him to lead a special investigation into the possible involvement of White House personnel in the Watergate case.

But he refused to issue a projected fictitious report rejecting a cover-up according to the revelations when implications of White House involvement turned out to be stronger; he started telling federal investigators what he was aware of.

Nixon fired him on April 30, 1973. After 2 months, he testified publicly before the Senate Select Committee on Presidential Campaign Activities, where he explained in a detailed manner how White House Officials (including the president) had obstructed justice to mask their participation in the events following the June 17, 1972.

He was convinced of obstruction of justice and went to prison for 4 months for his role in the Watergate scandal. After this incident, he became an investment banker. He also published many books and was a frequent TV commentator.
