There are other hits like fading like a flower and dangerous.  Before coming together Marie and Gessle were established artists in Sweden. They both have individually released a number of hit songs. They have solo albums. Per Gessle were a lead singer and even the songwriter of Gyllene Tider, a band that gave 3 hits and number-one albums that were loved worldwide.

Roxette was formed when their record label managing director advised them to come together and record a single Never ending Love. This single became a super duper hit in Sweden and Roxette was formed.

Roxette birth

Roxette had two members Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle, who both met in Halmstad, Sweden in the late 1970s. Gessle was the lead singer of Sweden’s most popular band. Marie was less successful before they linked together. Marie first sang with the band on stage.

She was featured as a background vocalist. This album was in the Swedish language and was released in 1982. Per also worked with ex-Abba singer Frida for the song Something’s Going On that appeared in 1982.

Roxette bestselling albums

They both released hit records one after another don’t bore us; Get to the Chorus which is one of the greatest hits.  Another two hit albums were released in 1999 Have a Nice Day and 2001 Room Service. Roxette was not only popular in Sweden but it also started climbing the charts of other countries as well mainly Australia, Europe, and Latin America.

They became so popular for their music that they also earned popular awards like platinum and gold awards.  They both used to record albums and even perform stage shows worldwide. Roxette took a break from touring and recording because Marie was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Gessle started working on solo albums at first and then reunited with his band gyllene tider.  After eight years Roxette again took the stage in the year 2009 during per’s European Party Crasher tour in the year 2011. The first album they released after 8 years was Charm school. This was their first studio album in10 years after which “Travelling” came in the year 2012.  In the year 2016, the final album came out which was good karma.

Sadly Marie Fredriksson said goodbye to this world on 9th December 2019 she was 61 years and was battling a brain tumor.  Even after Marie was no more Roxette’s songs like Listen to your Heart and It Must Have Been Love continue to receive radio airplay. Both singles also received BMI rewards in the year 2014.

Both of these songs achieved 5 million radio plays. We can guess the popularity of Roxette albums. The records were sold all over the world and it is estimated that the figure was 75 million records.

10 million were sold in certified units from Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. They also achieved platinum and gold certifications for Look sharp and Joyride in all three major regions. After ABBA Roxette is the 2nd best-selling music in Sweden.
