Emma Goldman was born on 27th June 1869 in Kaunas, Lithuania.  Her parents were Taube Beinowich and her father Abraham Goldman. She was involved with many anarchist groups and also published her views in an anarchist magazine called mother earth. She used to spend her entire time traveling to Europe and United States to give lectures and also used to present her views on political views in the late 19th century. 

Emma Goldman spread awareness about birth control. When she used to work as a nurse she experienced there is a lack of contraceptive options which is a major issue. When she was traveling and advocating birth control she got huge attention from three countries and brought their attention to family planning and women’s right from the 19th century till the beginning of the 20th century.

Emma Goldman’s initial struggles

Emma Goldman started working at a very young age. She first worked at a corset shop and also dropped from school before she even reached the teenage.  According to Emma Goldman, she requested her father to go to school but she was not allowed to do so. 

Her father’s opinions were that girls don’t need learning and he also threw her book in the fire.  His father’s views were that the only motive of women is to cook food and give birth to a child.  Despite her parents being against her, she taught herself about the political environment in the Soviet Union.

Emma Goldman had a very bitter experience from a very young age. She was not born in a good family.  She saw servants whipping streets which made her opinions against the authority.  When she was in primary school she used to be punished for her behavior. 

Emma Goldman was also molested by her teacher when she was a child. She also said that she was sexually molested by a customer when she used to work in a corset shop and all these experiences created negativity and hate in her heart for men.

Emma Goldman Marriage

Emma Goldman immigrated to New York along with her half-sisters in 1885 to start a new life. They moved to the home of Emma’s other half-sister and her husband. She strand working as a seamstress. Later the sisters were also joined by their parents and other siblings in New York. 

In 1887 Emma Goldman married a man called Jacob Kershner and the same year they got divorced.  After she got divorced her parents asked her to move out of their home and she was left alone.

Emma Goldman Participations

Emma Goldman met a self-proclaimed anarchist Alexander barman who cultivated Emma Goldman’s interest in public speaking. They became romantically involved and moved to Woodstock in the early 1890s. Both of them used to participate in protests in the Homestead Strike which was the beginning of other involvement in political and social conflicts. 

She was also arrested and charged. She then started protesting on different occasions for different social and political issues. Goldman also refused to cooperate with Charles Jacobs who was a detective. She was jailed for one year when she fell ill and she made a new friend who was a doctor and helped her study medicine. 

When she came out of prison she was greeted by thousands of her fans. Goldman participated in many movements and had many supporters.  On 17th Funerary 1940 she suffered a stroke and got paralyzed and on 14th may 1940 she died from the second’s troche.
