Thomas Jefferson was born on 13 April 1743 in the Piedmont region of central Virginia. He was born on the plantation of Shadwell which is located along Rivanna River and at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Thomas Jefferson’s parents were Peter Jefferson who was a surveyor and planter. His father was successful in what he was doing. His mother was Jane Randolph who belonged to the distinguished family of Virginia.

Thomas Jefferson went to college and studied law for five years with George Wythe who was a prominent jurist of Virginia. He then first recorded his legal case in the year 1767. After two years he was elected to the House of Burgesses of Virginia.

The couple had six children together but only two children made it to adulthood Patsy and Polly.  Unfortunately even the love of his life his wife Martha died after ten years of their marriage.

In the year 1779 Thomas Jefferson was elected as the governor till 1781. At the time of his governorship, he had to face many controversies as well as criticism. He also wrote a book called Notes on the State of Virginia. He was too a slave owner which led him to many controversies.

Later in the year 1784 he became the trade commissioner in France and entered public service again. In 1790 he became the first secretary of state under George Washington.  In 1796 he became vice president and then he became the third president of the United States after defeating John Adams.

The most notable achievement of Thomas Jefferson was buying Louisiana Territory in the year 1803 and his support on the side of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. At the time of retirement, Thomas Jefferson spent most of his time at Monticello.

He used to sell his book collection to the government so that the Library of Congress nucleus can be formed and instantly also started purchasing more volumes after selling 6500 volumes. Sadly he also said that he cannot live without books. Thomas Jefferson’s last public service was at the Foundation University of Virginia. 

At the time of retirement, Thomas Jefferson was mostly in debt and his notable accomplishments in purchasing Louisiana territory and port of new lands also raised a huge wall of financial discomfort in his life,

Thomas Jefferson wrote his epitaph and also designed his grave marker that will bear just his accomplishment and nothing else.
